you may write on any topic in any genre you choose. I have included a few exercises and prompts below. I may add more over the weekend.
1.Exercise: Expansion - expand the sentence below into a scene or paragraph. Focus on adding more detail, making the explicit implicit, and the abstract concrete. You can try using dialogue, actions, sensory details
"As he sat next to her that day, he realized he loved her; unfortunately, she didn't love him."
"just go" prompts (copy the prompt, time yourself for 10 min and just write. You can include the prompt anywhere in what you write. You don't have to though.)
"with a resounding thud on the floor"
"unaware that she was being watched"
"what he/she left behind"
theme prompt: Broken place (done in class)
Think of a time you found yourself in a "broken place," maybe you were injured, sick, depressed, defeated, heartbroken, lost, etc...what happened to bring you to that broken place? what did you do while in that state? How did things get better? Did they get worse? Did you get though it? If so, how? What did you gain? What did you lose?
START WITH (if you like)
I'd never been so _____ as I was when...
* Choose a "broken place scenarios from class and write a scene using something concrete you came up with*
