1. DO NOW: Write for 10 min, at least half a page to a page. Choose one or several prompts below.
***I will stamp your work at the end of class***
-Freewrite about something you have lost, something that is irreplaceable.
-What has been lost, stolen, or destroyed that you wish you could have back? Why?
-List objects you have lost
-List people you have lost
-List moments, events, feelings you have lost or that have passed you by
Speculate/Imagine (half page)
-A tsunami is coming or your house is burning, (your family, pets, and you will be safe. What else will you take with you? if you write it down, in 2 min. it’s safe.
-Why did you save what you did? How do you feel about losing everything else? How will you cope with having lost those things?
2. Elaborate (Specific- Concrete)
Choose one of the “lost” things from the earlier exercise (Do both “reflect” and “describe”
If you get stuck try writing about another object)
Reflect: Why was it valuable? Did it remind you of someone or something? Why/How was he/she or that moment or place important?
How do you feel when you think of it?
Describe: What did the object look like, smell like, sound like, taste, like, feel like? How did you acquire it? How did you lose? Did you try to get it back? What happened when you realized you couldn’t?

1. Show and Tell (due Wed/Thurs): Bring in an object to share with class. This should be something that has a story, maybe it’s something you’re afraid to lose or that you’ve found, or that’s important, or maybe it’s just something interesting or funny. Each person will stand up and share it with the class and we will do an activity around it.
